TRX holders to receive free BTT tokens for the next six years

The acquisition of BitTorrent by Justin Sun, Tron’s founder, has proved to be beneficial to TRX holders as the two entities seek ways to decentralize the internet.

Now, with the BitTorrent Token airdrop taking off today, Feb 11, TRX holders will receive free BTT tokens for the next six years. The TRX holders will have to share the 10.1 percent of 990,000,000,000 BitTorrent Tokens that have been set aside for the airdrop event which will end in early 2025.

The amount to be airdropped each month will be incremented on a yearly basis with the new amounts being implemented on the second month of the year.

While speaking to CoinDesk, Tron’s founder said that the relationship between Tron and BitTorrent is very strong such that one will need the other to achieve its objective of decentralizing the internet.

Sun continued:

“We are seeding BTT to deliver a marketplace of innovations and applications across the web.”

TRX holders will start receiving their free BitTorrent Tokens when a block height of 6,600,000 has been achieved on the Tron blockchain. The first year of the airdrop will see more than 11 billion BTT tokens airdropped to TRX holders. The ratio of distribution will be 0.11 BTT tokens for every one TRX held.

Apart from giving out free BTT tokens to TRX holders, Sun is reportedly unveiling a secret campaign on Valentines Day. In a tweet, Sun said:

We’ll have a secret campaign released on Valentines Day for TRON and BitTorrent! Numerous celebrities will be on board FYI, one of the main characters in Friends, one winner of 3 golden globe awards & one winner of 4 SuperBowl titles. Our Valentines Day campaign is in memory of Hal Finney, the Cypherpunk, the early Bitcoin contributor, the first man to receive Bitcoins from Satoshi Nakamoto.

Will airdropping BTT tokens to TRX holders for six years help the BTT token gain momentum?
