Serena Williams Reveals She Has Invested In The Crypto Industry

One of the best tennis players in the world Serena Williams has revealed that she is an early investor of the Crypto Industry. Through an Instagram post, she said that she was invested in one of the top currency websites in the world, Coinbase.

Williams Got Into The Crypto Industry Through Her Venture Capital

The superstar tennis player revealed that the investment was made through her VC firm Serena Ventures, a company that was founded back in 2014. The venture has also invested in startups that are based in various areas including fitness, food, clothing and women’s health and community.

The post read:

“In 2014, (yes I know I can keep a secret) I launched Serena Ventures with the mission of giving opportunities to founders across an array of industries. Serena Ventures invests in companies that embrace diverse leadership, individual empowerment, creativity, and opportunity.”

According to the VC firm’s website, its portfolio has over 30 companies that have a total market cap of over $12 billion. However, what we are not sure of is how much was invested by her VC firm and in which exact round did she get into the Crypto Industry.

Data from Crunchbase indicates that Coinbase so far has seen investments totaling $546.6 million since it held the first seed round back in 2012. However, the most notable round was the one held back in October 2018 where the exchange managed to raise $300 million. This saw the platform valued at $8 billion.

Williams is an accomplished athlete who has won many accolades and, in the process, cemented her place as one of the best tennis players ever. So far, she has won a record 23 Grand Slam singles titles and also 14 doubles alongside her sister Venus. Also, she has won four gold medals at the Olympics.

Her investment in Coinbase is not surprising given that her husband Alexis Ohanian is the founder of Reddit.
