The World Economic Forum Has Named BitPesa Founder Co-Chair Of Global Council On Blockchain

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has named the founder and CEO of BitPesa Elizabeth Rossielo as the co-chair of the Global Blockchain Council. This is according to a press release that was published on Jan. 24.

Rossiello is said to be working with the thirty-member team of the council and other industry experts like CEOs, heads of regulatory agencies and ministers during the WEF Annual Meeting 2019 in Davos as they try to sort the council’s top priorities.

Rossiello founded BitPesa in 2013. The blockchain startup initially focused on blockchain enabled transfers of money between the UK and Kenya. However, since then the company has expanded its operations to other locations within Africa and Europe.

WEF believes the blockchain will play a crucial role in the Forth Industrial Revolution which will be characterized by many technological breakthroughs that “will fundamentally alter the way we live, work and relate to one another… [across] the global polity, from the public and private sectors to academia and civil society.”

According to Sheila Warren who is the head of Blockchain at WEF, the BitPesa CEO was chosen to chair the council not only for her technical expertise and diverse background but for her ability to bring together different people together especially in the fragmented ecosystem.

Rossielo also seems to agree that the work the WEF does is of significance. According to her, the organization brings diverse and multiple stakeholders together which is vital for the continued success of the blockchain industry.

Interestingly a survey conducted this week at the Global Blockchain Business Council found out that 40 percent of the present institutional investors believed that the blockchain was the most important invention since the birth of the internet.
