The digital currency wave is slowly taking over the music industry. Recently a Hip-Hop singer outlined how cryptocurrency and blockchain are going to raise the bar in the industry. Akon, a renowned international R&B singer has indicated that he will be developing a 2,000 acres crypto city in Africa.
According to him,
“I think that blockchain and crypto could be the saviour for Africa in many ways because it brings the power back to the people and brings the security back into the currency system and also allows the people to utilize it in ways where they can advance themselves and not allow government to do those things that are keeping them down”
Regarding the crypto city in Africa, the R&B singer pointed out that it will be located in his home country, Senegal, on the land given to him by the Senegalese president.
The city will use Akoin, Akon’s own digital currency, for all its transactions.
Akon has been involved with humanitarian activities in Africa. 4 years ago, he launched the Lighting Africa project which concentrates on utilizing solar power to light homes in the rural areas.
The singer has also indicated that he will be vying for the U.S presidency in 2020 running against the current president, Donald Trump. But according to Akon, it will be more fan if Kanye West, another international singer, runs for the presidency noting that it will be “entertaining, it’s gonna be something worth watching”
Last month, PayPal founder Peter Thiel, funded the floating island project which will only allow transactions in cryptocurrency. The island is set to launch in 2022.
The crypto city in Africa and the floating island are not the only projects involving cryptocurrency. In Norway, a private city is being built. Currently, the land where the private city is marked to be built is being purchased with cryptocurrencies with all services for the city residents being provided by private firms.
Do you think people are trying to edge out governments by using cryptos to develop their own crypto cities?
